Choroideremia (CHM) is a rare inherited disorder that causes progressive vision loss and ultimately leads to complete blindness. The disease affects the retina, which is the area at the back of the eye.
The Choroideremia Research Foundation (CRF) is the largest organization in the world focused on the search for a cure for choroideremia (CHM). Our mission is to raise funds in support of scientific research leading to a treatment or cure of choroideremia, a hereditary retinal-degenerative disease that causes blindness; to educate people affected by the disease; and to inform the public. Founded in 2000, a small group of individuals affected with CHM formed the CRF to make a difference for themselves, their families and the many others living with this disease. There are an estimated 6,600 affected male CHMers in the United States.
